Dentist plan for Tesco’s store

Tesco is following hot on the heels of supermarket competitor, Sainsbury's, in opening a dental surgery at one of its store.

A Glasgow branch of the store has lodged a planning application with Glasgow City Council exploring the possibility of using space to covert into a three-chair surgery.

Figures show south-west Glasgow has one of the worst dental health record in Scotland. About three in four of all children under five in the area have a history of tooth decay and/or dental extractions by the time they start school.

Sainsbury's became the first chain in the UK to open an in-store private dental practice in 2008 and was swamped with patients.

The company piloted the scheme in Sale, Manchester, to help the thousands of patients unable to register with an NHS dentist in the area at that time.
